Deciding to take voice and/or acting lessons is the first step to discovering your potential as a singer, musician and artist! As you embark on this journey of self discovery, it is essential that you have a teacher that you can trust as your guide and mentor. I hope that I will be that special person for you! The first step in finding a teacher is to research his/her credentials, so here is a little information about me.
STAGE LIFE: Elizabeth Mitchell, Mezzo-Soprano – I am a versatile performer whose repertoire ranges from Opera to Musical Theater to Folk Music and I currently reside in Belleville, Michigan. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, I was blessed to be raised in a musical family and first discovered my passion for music as a pianist when I was 5 years old. By the age of 16, I changed my focus to singing and never looked back. I am at home on stage and have professionally performed nationally and internationally in opera houses, concert venues, and theaters. I recently won a 2021-2022 Wilde Award for "Best Lead Actress" in a Play for Jenny in Jenny's House of Joy with the Dio and was nominated as "Best Supporting Actress in a Musical" in the 2019 BroadwayWorld Detroit Regional Awards for my performance as Marmee March in Little Women : The Musical with One Off Productions. In addition to stage work, I have competed in national and international competitions. In 2011, I was honored to be selected as a Utah District Finalist at the Metropolitan Opera Competition. Other awards include being an international finalist at the Lotte Lenya Competition for Singers in 2007 and a semi-finalist at the International Czech and Slovak Competition in both 2007 and 2009. BEHIND THE SCENES: Beth Mitchell, Teacher & Mentor– In addition to performing, I have been teaching since the age of 15. Education is and has always been important to me. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah and my Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan, both in Vocal Performance and with scholarship. In both my undergraduate and graduate work, I studied vocal pedagogy and taught both beginning piano and voice at the Novi Music Academy for 3 years after graduation. Since then, I have been teaching privately for over 18 years and also teach Class Voice I & II at Washtenaw Community College and am Voice and Musical Theater Faculty at Concordia University Ann Arbor. I specialize in a classical vocal technique, but I happily teach voice students to sing in various styles including musical theater, popular, and jazz.
NEW HORIZONS: Stage Direction- In 2019, I was thrilled to make my directorial debut of Mary Poppins featuring the high school students of Tecumseh Youth Theatre and returned as director for Beauty and the Beast with TYT in 2021 and Newsies in 2023. I am proud to say that my wonderful cast, crew and production team took Tecumseh by storm! Mary Poppins was nominated for the BroadwayWorld 2019 Detroit Regional Awards in several categories including Best Production for Young Adults, Best Ensemble, and more! I also directed H.M.S. Pinafore in 2021 with the University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society to rave reviews expanding my directorial experience to college students and adult community actors. These incredible experiences opened up a new chapter for me and I now enjoy helping all performers find their confidence on stage by teaching Private Acting Lessons.
